Get Or Read AppSettings Item Value From The Web.Config File

AppSettings often is used for Global Application Settings such as API configurations, third party login detail, connection string, server information, path location and other custom settings. It’s a direct child of the element and a peer of the system.web element in Web.config.

For example, you want to store YouTube API Authentication information and one connection String in the AppSettings element, let’s see how it looks and structured in the Web.config:

Note: the Web.config is generated from Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition so it may a little bit difference with your current one. Just focus on lines from 26 to 32.

To get the value for each the key setting stored in element, use the ConfigurationSettings class from the System.Configuration namespace. The value is always a type of String, if the specified key doesn’t exist in the appSettings then an empty string will be returned.
